What areas will be treated ?
This is determined by your feedback, symptoms that you are having, and goals you wish to achieve with regard to your health.
How will I be covered during the massage?
RMT’s have strict standards of practice for draping clients. Protocol is regulated by the College of Massage Therapist of Ontario to ensure privacy for clients. A table linen and top blanket will be covering you at all times, from your neck to your feet. Only the areas that you have consented to will be treated, and these areas will be uncovered and tightly draped one at a time. Sensitive areas such as the breasts, gluteals, inner thigh and abdomen require specific written consent from you before each treatment and must be indicated in your symptoms or conditions. RMT’s abide by legislation that the pelvis is consistently covered in all massage treatments.
What is Aromatherapy & how can it help?
New Directions Aromatics has created a product line of synergy blends with specific symptoms in mind. Blends of pure essential oils are combined to enhance the senses to achieve a variety of personal goals such as; Vitality, Tranquil, Relax, Mental Clarity, Invigorating, Head ease, Pillager’s Potion and Immunity.
How do I decide between Relaxational & Therapeutic?
Generally, Relaxation Massage incorporates soothing, rhythmic techniques with light to moderate pressure. Therapeutic Massage uses advanced techniques, concentrated at specific areas, with deeper pressure to affect underlying muscles, ligaments and fascia.
What should my arrival time be?
It is recommended to arrive 10 minutes prior to your massage. This allows for using the washroom and updating the RMT on your condition before treatment begins.
How can I prolong the benefits of my massage?
Your role in self care is an important piece of the puzzle when seeking massage therapy for specific health goals.
Recommendations will be made for; Hydration, Epsom Salt baths, Remedial Exercise, Stretching, Heat or Ice application, Self massage, Nutrition, Lifestyle changes and Referrals.
What do I wear for my massage treatment?
In order to treat the areas that are indicated, clothing generally needs to be removed to access those particular areas. Massage Therapy requires direct contact with the skin and the use of lotions or oils. Clients are informed to undress to their comfort level. It is suggested to leave undergarments on. In the case of female clients, the bra strap often interferes with continuous flow in the back massage routine, therefore it is recommended to remove the bra or move the bra straps off of the back area.
What Lotions or Oils will be used?
Hypoallergenic and organic lotions and oils from the product line Sacred Earth are used. You have the option to choose your preference. A towel is provided to remove products before dressing after treatment.
What pressure should I expect?
The goals you discuss prior to the massage indicates what pressure and techniques will be required. The pressure used in your massage is custom tailored to your level of comfort.
Will there be conversation during my massage?
In an effort to maximize relaxation time, RMT’s are trained to keep conversation to a minimum. Conversation is welcome and the client is in control of the conversation. Once clients stop the conversation their quiet time will be respected.
Why is a Health history required?
Health history forms help identify what areas and treatment approaches are indicated for each individual client. It is a requirement of the CMTO that you provide written consent for your massage treatment and that your health history is kept current to ensure quality treatment and safety.
What treatments are RMT’s qualified to provide?
The practice of Massage Therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain (Massage Therapy Act, 1991).
